Gutter Ball is a 3D combat platformer where you attempt to find your way out of a "whimsy-creepy" haunted bowling alley and use your trusty bowling ball to fight off hoards of monstrous bowling pins. A 9-month-long academic project developed by a 10-person team of CS, design, and audio students.
I contributed as a UI engineer and spent most of my time on the user interface and user experience. Over my time with this team, I learned much about Unreal Engine 5 UMG editor and UI/UX development.
Throughout the project I:
- Implemented an item display using blueprint scripting
- Created the menu / menu system using UE5 editor and some visual scripting
Thanks to this project I learned Unreal Engine 5 development, how to use blueprint scripting, and the dos and don'ts of UI implementation in UE5. Combined with additional course work, I am better equipped to be a UI/UX engineer AND designer, capable of implementing a UI system with scalability and automation in mind that a designer could use with ease with less bugs
